Building recording

The MOLA building recording team has extensive knowledge and experience of interpreting and recording historic buildings and their locations across a range of different time periods.

How we can help

We have experts in architectural history, photography, surveying, geophysical investigation and illustration, ensuring that we can respond effectively to whatever needs the client may have.

The team also has expertise in the detailed analysis of different types of building techniques and materials, including brick, worked stone, timber and paint.

We offer a full range of services, from historic buildings assessments in support of planning applications, to building surveys and historic reconstructions.

3-D scanning

MOLA has teamed up with Plowman Craven Associates (external link) to provide state-of-the-art 3-D laser scanning and survey for historic buildings and structures. New technology allows rapid scanning to millimetric scales of accuracy of the most complicated historic structures - from statues to bridges to churches.

Combined with MOLA's expertise in standing building interpretation, the service provides an invaluable base for:

  • Disaster mitigation strategies
  • Long-term conservation planning
  • Opportunities for 'virtual visiting' via the web
