Department-based services
Many of MOLA's specialists are at the forefront of current research in their fields and command international reputations. Their experience and expertise, combined with the resources of the Museum of London, allow us to offer a comprehensive range of services that integrate reliability and cost-effectiveness with academic excellence.
- MOLA’s building recording team provides assessment, recording and reporting on all forms of built structures from all periods, ranging from roads to bridges, railways and stations; and from churches and palaces to factories and gasworks.
- MOLA’s environmental team provides reports on all categories of ancient environmental remains. From sampling strategies through to analysis and publication, we work on plant remains, seeds, pollen, snails, macro-fossils, and more.
- MOLA’s geoarchaeology team is one of the largest in the country. We provide everything from sampling strategies to borehole analysis and deposit modelling for the reconstruction of prehistoric and ancient landscapes.
- MOLA’s graphics and design team uses the latest digital design and illustration techniques for all forms of artwork and 2-D and 3-D reconstructions. These are used in our internationally reputed publication series, as well as for external commissions from other organisations, including leaflets, books, hoardings, posters and museum displays.
- Post-excavation work is a component of all MOLA’s fieldwork projects. In the case of excavations, an ‘updated project design for publication’ normally accompanies the Post-excavation Assessment Report and is written after the end of fieldwork.
- MOLA has expert conservators working from fully equipped laboratories. They deal with everything from onsite remedial stabilisation of fragile objects prior to removal, through to reconstruction and conservation of artefacts and long-term monitoring of conserved timber or masonry structures.
- MOLA’s forensic archaeology team has been working with police forces throughout the UK for the last 20 years. All work is done under terms of strict confidentiality.
- MOLA’s geomatics team works on the capture and analysis of all types of digital spatial data. This ranges from the latest techniques in field survey (GPS etc) to in-house CAD work and manipulation and interpretation via our purpose-built GIS.
- MOLA's photography team provides high quality conventional and digital images using state-of-the-art equipment both in the field and in our studios. We hold an extensive library of images from sites going back 30 years.
