Artefact-based services
Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA) employs many internationally known experts in our specialist teams. They provide everything from object identification to spot-dating and detailed analysis and research reports. We have in-house specialists in the following disciplines: Roman pottery, medieval pottery, Roman small finds, medieval and later small finds, botany, animal and human bone, building materials, timber and ancient woodworking. We also have a fully equipped conservation lab capable of dealing with all these artefact types.
- Damian Goodburn is one of the world’s leading experts on ancient timber, providing analysis and reports on timber structures or artefacts, timber working, woodland management and reconstruction projects.
- MOLA employs internationally known experts in specific disciplines, from prehistoric flints to Roman glass, Saxon metalwork and post-medieval ceramics. Our services range from on-site conservation to assessment, analysis and publication.
- MOLA's building materials team regularly visits sites to provide advice on sampling and retention, provides spot-dating of certain categories of material, and provides assessment, analysis and reports for brick, tile, or stone building materials.
MOLA’s expert team provides sampling strategies, analysis and reporting for both human and animal bone assemblages. The team regularly works on major cemetery investigations and can provide expert advice on crypt clearance and redundant burial grounds.
