Excavating Somers Town Goods Yard

18 August 2011

Earlier this year, MOLA carried out an archaeological excavation prior to the construction of The Francis Crick Institute (external link) on a site close to St Pancras Station and the British Library. In the 19th century, the site had been a major distribution hub for fresh produce coming into London - the Somers Town Goods Yard.

The Wellcome Trust, one of the founders of The Francis Crick Institute, has produced a short film about the excavation. MOLA Assistant Contract Manager Louise Davies talks about the discoveries from the site, which shed a fascinating light on the area's changing history. Watch the video (external link).
