Art exhibition at the Chapter House, Merton Priory
An enthralling and atmospheric exhibition called "Post Script" is taking place over the next couple of weekends in the ruins of the Medieval Chapter House of Merton Priory - the entrance of which is under in the walkway that joins the Sainsbury's Savacentre with Merton Abbey Mills. The exhibition coincides with the Merton Arts Trail and is open on 8 and 9 October and 15 and 16 October from 11am to 5 pm. Admission is free.
The exhibiting artists are Robert Aldous, Jane Bailey, Wendy Bliss, Sue Evans, Maxwell Flood, Fiona Long, Fiona Leighton Crawford, Helen Newhouse, Maxine Pringle and Chris Rowe.
The exhibition is filled with artefacts on loan from the Museum of London. These archaeological finds - most of which were found during the excavation of the site - form a backdrop to the artworks on display. The artists have all responded in their own unique way, stressing the importance of our shared heritage. Included are Medieval spectacles, fragments of stained glass, animal bones, Medieval text and an enthralling replica of the famous gold ring found on the site with an inscription in Medieval French.
Discover ancient stone coffins, look through Medieval stained glass, read ancient texts and discover the mystery of the words written on the ring.
This exhibition provides the visiting public with the opportunity to view exciting contemporary artwork at this important archaeological site.
