Greater London Authority (GLA)
In the run-up to the City of London's first mayoral election, the Museum of London designed and installed a series of topical exhibitions for the Greater London Authority transitional team at Romney House.
Exhibitions for the new Visitor Centre focussed the public's attention on the responsibilities of the new Mayor, covering the development of the City's economy and transport systems as well as the election itself.
Each of the three displays was designed to the same format, providing the public with a simple outline of the issues involved and engaging their curiosity with relevant objects and information - 19th-century bus tickets, a 1960s parking meter top, a preview of the new voting form. The resulting exhibitions used our extensive collection to convey a balanced but thought-provoking picture, posing important questions from which visitors drew their own conclusions.
