Schools and colleges

Museum of London Archaeology has undertaken numerous assessments and fieldwork projects associated with school and college redevelopments. These include projects for Building Schools for the Future, the Primary Capital Programme and the Academies Programme.

Our specialist schools and colleges team has proven expertise in planning practical and cost-effective solutions for schools which require an archaeological input. We can assist in delivering an efficient route through the archaeology and town planning process. We can also ensure that archaeology is integrated effectively into the development programme and without causing disruption to the operation of the school.

As a division of the Museum of London, we can draw on the Museum’s resources to ‘add value’ to any work we do for you. This could include providing feedback on the archaeological and historical background of a school for staff and pupils.

Some of the schools projects we have successfully completed include:

  • Southwark – an archaeological field evaluation at a BSF pilot school
  • Northampton – archaeological assessment reports for 39 schools
  • Tower Hamlets – archaeological risk assessments for four school sites
  • Lambeth – assessments and field evaluation for BSF schools
  • Waltham Forest – assessments and field evaluation for BSF schools
