Maidstone Museum, Kent
MoLAS Conservators often supply conservation and collections care expertise to regional and special interest museums and independent collections of historic and archaeological artefacts. Recent examples include the Maidstone Museum, established in the mid 19th century and now housing over 660,000 artefacts, including substantial archaeological and social history collections.
A condition survey of the metal collections was carried out with recommendations for further preventive care, advice was provided on care of collections during refurbishment of stores and a repackaging project to improve the physical care and environmental conditions for a fragile assemblage of composite Saxon swords was undertaken.
