3D laser scanning being used to record the City of London Corporation State Coaches

3-D scanning

Museum of London Archaeology has teamed up with Plowman Craven Associates to provide state-of-the-art 3-D laser scanning and survey for historic buildings and structures.

New technology allows rapid scanning to millimetric scales of accuracy of the most complicated historic structures - from statues to bridges to churches.

Combined with Museum of London Archaeology's expertise in standing building interpretation, the service provides an invaluable base for:

  • disaster mitigation strategies
  • long term conservation planning
  • opportunities for 'virtual visiting' via the Web
