Taryn Nixon has been the Managing Director of Museum of London Archaeology since 1998, and has overall responsibility for all aspects of MOL Archaeology work. She has many years' experience of project management in London, extensive knowledge of British and European archaeological policy, and a sound understanding of the complexities of integrating archaeological heritage management decisions with property development and construction.

She is a former Chair of the British archaeological professional body, the Institute of Field Archaeologists, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London and a member of the CABE Design Review Specialist Panel.

Nick Bateman

Nick Bateman is a Senior Consultant at Museum of London Archaeolgy and leads one of the Client Teams. He is a member of the MOL Archaeology Senior Management Group. Prior to his appointment, Nick was a Senior Project Manager.

Nick joined the Museum’s Archaeology Department in 1981 as a full time member of staff, having previously worked on sites around the UK. He was the Project Coordinator for the Guildhall Amphitheatre excavations from 1987 to 1997, and has extensive experience of managing large excavations and post-excavation analysis in London and a wide experience of archaeology abroad.

He is a Member of the Institute of Field Archaeologists and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.

Sophie Jackson

Sophie Jackson is a Senior Consultant at Museum of London Archaeology and leads one of the MOL Archaeology Client Teams. She is a member of the MOL Archaeology Senior Management Group. Prior to this, she was a Senior Project Manager, and has a great deal of experience of the design and management of complex archaeological projects. She has designed and managed many schemes within London’s historic core, including at nationally important sites such as the Roman fort and medieval London waterfront.

Sophie has over 15 years of experience in London archaeology. She also has media experience gained from four years working outside archaeology and is an excellent communicator and enthusiastic team member.

Chris Thomas

Chris Thomas has 10 years' experience of managing major projects. As a Senior Consultant he leads one of the Museum of London Archaeology Client Teams, and is a member of the Senior Management Group. Prior to this appointment, he supervised major excavations including medieval monastic sites such as the Priory and Hospital of St Mary Spital, Westminster Abbey and the London Charterhouse.

Chris has also carried out detailed recording of standing historic buildings, and has excavated a wetland site with Bronze Age timber trackway. His work on excavations in Westminster has particularly involved the later prehistoric periods, the late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval periods, while excavations in Spitalfields have involved the Roman, medieval and post-medieval periods.

Chris has produced a large number of articles and publications including, very recently, “The Archaeology of Medieval London” – an account of London in the medieval period, describing up-to-date archaeological discoveries that throw new light onto the history of the medieval capital. Chris is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.

Derek Seeley has over 7 years' experience as a Senior Manager in Museum of London Archaeology. As a Senior Contracts Manager he leads on major projects and plays a key role in the organisation's new business. Prior to this, Derek was a Senior Project Manager. Since 2000, after ten years as a Project Manager. He initially worked as a field archaeologist and then a supervisor in Southwark and Lambeth and has a great deal of experience in initiating, designing and managing all types of archaeological projects.

25 years' experience of London archaeology have allowed Derek to build close working relationships with key members of the heritage sector in this region, and he has also managed a number of projects throughout mainland UK and the Channel Islands.

George Dennis

George Dennis has been a professional archaeologist for 25 years and has played a key role in managing major projects for Museum of London Archaeology since 1991. Previously he worked in the aerospace industry and as archaeological planning advisor to a group of London boroughs, where he took a lead role in drafting archaeological policies and constraint mapping for Unitary Development Plans.

George is a specialist in Cultural Resource Management and a skilled negotiator at director/partner level with both private and public corporations. He has considerable experience of consultancy and of working as part of an integrated project team, having managed the archaeological element of major infrastructure projects such as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link; A2/M2 widening in Kent; East London Line Extension; Crossrail and the Jubilee Line Extension.

Robin Nielsen

Robin Nielsen is a Project Manager with Museum of London Archaeology and first joined the Museum in 1987. Since then, he has been involved in numerous field evaluations, excavations, watching briefs, in-situ preservation monitoring, desktop assessments and post-excavation publication projects, and has over 10 years project management experience, including on major urban and rural schemes.

Robin’s current role involves consultancy, impact assessment and project design. He is responsible for initiating, negotiating and managing all aspects of archaeological projects in the City, south-east London and Kent, and has considerable experience advising and liaising with clients and their agents, heritage organisations and other statutory bodies.

Stewart Hoad

Stewart Hoad joined the Museum in 1987, and has managed projects with Museum of London Archaeology since April 2004. He has extensive experience in preparing archaeological project designs and desk-based assessment reports, and directing a wide range of archaeological field projects, from small-scale watching briefs and evaluations to large excavations with major post-excavation analysis and publication work, both in London and the UK.

Stewart is currently responsible for the London Boroughs in the south and south-west.

Ros Aitken

Ros joined Museum of London Archaeology in 1998 and has managed projects in MoLAS since 2005. She has excellent skills in people management, and has ensured the smooth-running of various archaeological and geoarchaeological projects. She is currently managing a wide variety of projects in north-west London and in the Home Counties. These involve the initiation and design of projects, desk-top assessments, watching briefs, evaluations and excavations.

Gordon Malcolm

Gordon Malcolm is responsible for co-ordinating and managing post excavation and publication projects. He specialises in Saxon period sites and also manages several major excavation projects in the London Borough of Westminster, in the area of Saxon Lundenwic.

He is currently responsible for the management of more than eighty post-excavation projects. He has worked on a wide range of archaeological sites, and has knowledge of both rural and urban stratigraphy and the interpretation and recording of prehistoric ritual and other landscapes.

Previously, Gordon has supervised a number of sites within the Priory of St John, Clerkenwell and co-authored the Royal Opera House publication, concerning the most important Middle Saxon site yet excavated in London.

Sarah Jones

Sarah Jones is Principal Geomatics Officer for Museum of London Archaeology, responsible for the management and co-ordination of the spatial data analysis aspects of excavation and post excavation projects, and the continued development of MoLAS procedures in these areas. Her work involves on-site survey, staff and client liaison, project programming and staff training, as well as using a variety of software, including AutoCAD and ArcView GIS.

She is particularly interested in the development of MOL Archaeology GIS, and Standing Building Recording systems. Sarah has been active in professional archaeology for almost twenty years in the UK and overseas, and has many years supervisory experience as a field archaeologist, on a very wide variety of projects and often with large teams of staff.

She was a supervisor for the excavation at Number 1 Poultry – one of London’s largest ever archaeological excavations - responsible particularly for post-excavation spatial data processing.

Tracy Wellman

Tracy Wellman is the Manager of the Graphics team at Museum of London Archaeology. A qualified designer, she joined the Museum of London in 1984 as an archaeologist and worked on a number of sites in London before moving into Graphics and Design Office in 1985.

She is responsible for overseeing all the artwork generated by MOL Archaeology - exhibition panels, promotional material, publications, desktop reports, etc. Outside MOL Archaeology, her skills as a specialist illustrator are used by Thames and Hudson, Harper Collins, and other publishers.

Andy Chopping

Andy Chopping is the Manager of the Photography team at Museum of London Archaeology. He joined the Museum in 1990 and is responsible for the production of high quality working shots, publication, press and public relations photographs.

Working on location and within their professional studio, the MOL Archaeology photographers record the wide range of our archaeological work as well as managing the photographic archive. Since graduating in 1980, Andy has worked as a professional photographer in England, Spain and the Middle East.

Working in medical and industrial research he has the photographic experience required to produce images within the more technical areas of photography, such as infra-red and ultra-violet imaging, macro-photography and photo-microscopy, aerial and architectural photography.

Peter Rauxloh

Peter Rauxloh is the Information Strategy Manager for the Museum of London Group, and ensures the delivery of secure and reliable desktop and network computing services as well as managing the Museum Systems Development team.

Peter joined Museum of London Archaeology in 1994 directly on completion of his PhD research on complex stratigraphic models within a Relational Database Management System. Prior to this he worked as a field archaeologist, supervising a number of sites in the UK and abroad and at MoLAS has been a member of a number of post-excavation research teams.

Since 1997 he has also been responsible for increasing the use of Geographic Information Systems within Museum of London Archaeology for the purposes of archaeological analysis and research. Peter’s current research interests are in the 3D modelling of complex burial stratigraphies within a GIS environment, the use of location based services for historical/archaeological information delivery and the increasing use of internet map service technology.

Peter teaches the Archaeology and Computing modules of the MA Archaeology course at Birkbeck University and is a Member of the Institute of Field Archaeologists.
