Dealing with archaeology: consultancy advice and the design and management of projects
Today's property professionals have to reconcile the need for new development with requirements to protect and record remains of the past. Experienced developers meet this challenge by incorporating archaeology into their early risk assessment procedures.
MOLA offers expert representation and advice; our goal is to help our clients in finding the most efficient route through the archaeological planning process and obtaining the necessary consents. We provide authoritative advice to developers and their teams throughout the stages of design, planning and construction.
Areas of expertise include buried archaeological remains as well as historic buildings, with the emphasis on smoothing the integration of archaeology with development.
The key tools are desk-based studies and field evaluation reports, prepared to meet planning authority requirements, in line with Planning Policy Statement 5 and the 1997 EIA Directive.
If archaeological work is specified under a planning condition, MOLA can provide a full 'design and build' service. This will include obtaining Local Planning Authority approval for WSIs, managing fieldwork - from building surveys, to limited watching briefs or full excavations - and seeing projects through to the discharge of the condition.
