About Museum of London Archaeology publications
During 2005, Museum of London Archaeology produced 12 major publications in-house, the most in any single year to date. Publications continue to include both English Heritage and PPG16 funded work but have been joined by significant work for other clients, who are using us as a publishing outlet for their own work.
Another 50 or so titles are underway, including some for external clients, and publications will continue to appear at a rate of ten or more per year.
The content of our 'traditional' books in print is continuing to evolve with a growing move towards shorter, synthetic texts and several in prep publications including CD-Roms and website links to datasets. Plans are now advancing for dissemination of out-of-print titles as PDFs, to be followed by electronic publication of some new titles and our first project to be designed from inception as a web-based publication.
All of the editing, design, typesetting and page-proof work continues to be organised in-house. All of our books are available directly from Museum of London Archaeology through our web pages, and also from the Museum of London shop, other good bookshops and through Oxbow Books.
Although there are a lot of books being produced we should not forget that the vast majority of our post-excavation projects are relatively small and result in articles which continue to go to local, regional and national peer-reviewed journals. These papers are just as important to us and our clients and deliver the results of archaeological work to the target audience as required by both client and curator.
