London Festival of Architecture: Cheapside Fair

On Saturday 19 July 2008, the London Festival of Architecture are organising an all day event on Cheapside to recreate a Medieval market.  There is evidence of trade as far back as 60AD and Cheapside is now at the centre of the City's retail initiative.

Groups taking part include a City of London stall; Hounslow City Farm talking about livestock; fresh food stalls; jugglers; stilt walkers.  The Museum of London will be hosting a stall which will give a history of Cheapside and archaeological finds in the area, laminated visuals and finds handling.

We would like to invite volunteers to come along on the day and help out on the stall.  Our Cheapside expert Hazel Forsyth will provide training to volunteers prior to the day so that you can talk knowledgeably with passers by.

If you, or anyone you know, are interested in getting involved please email volunteering@museumoflondon.org.uk.  The day runs between 9.30am and 4.30pm, travel expenses up to £7 and up to £4 towards lunch costs will be reimbursed.

The Museum of London at the Greater London Authority

From mid-July until the beginning of September the Museum of London will be taking part in an event at City Hall by talking to visitors to the GLA about what we do.

We are looking for volunteers who are available on a Tuesday and/or Thursday between 12pm and 2pm to support staff.  Travel expenses up to £7 will be reimbursed.

If you, or anyone you know, are interested in taking part please contact volunteering@museumoflondon.org.uk to discuss with Hayley.

21st century photographic tapestry of East London - very exciting!

Clare Newton has approached the Museum and is looking for volunteers to help her research 200 stories in London which will provide a tourist attraction in the form of a photographic montage, dynamic lighting and sound which will be displayed on a grand scale surrounding the Olympic Site. A very exciting project!

Both archive volunteers and volunteers willing to get out and about in the community are needed.  Call Hayley for more information.

Group induction (2 days)

This is for all staff who are 'new starters' and is their introduction to the Museum of London Group and all they need to know to get off to a smooth start. Human Resources have invited volunteers to attend if they would like to.

The next one is being held on Monday 21 July 2008 - Tuesday 22 July 2008, all day, both days.
