Community excavations
The Museum Of London aims to carry out at least one community excavation each year. Since 2005 we have engaged with over 2500 members of the community, enabling them to experience being an archaeologist. Our excavations span all areas of London, with participants ranging from school classes to community groups, 8 year olds to 80 year olds.
The community dig is your chance to come and join in digging, finds washing and uncovering local history. Our past digs have taken place in parks in Shoreditch, Hackney and Bruce Castle, Tottenham. Last year we dug up part of the Michael Faraday Primary School playground in Southwark and we are currently looking for a suitable site for 2008's dig.
We will regularly update details about next year’s dig as the plans take shape.
