Are you interested in getting involved with archaeology in London?
The Museum of London and Museum of London Archaeology run a range of archaeological events throughout the year, from a community dig to finds handling sessions. In addition, there are a number of other archaeological events organised in London each year such as the Festival of British Archaeology (external link) and Thames Discovery Programme (external link) seminars, courses and guided foreshore walks.
For information on archaeological societies across London that you can get involved with, please see the Archaeology in London pages.
Community excavation
Each year we organise a summer community dig where members of the local community can join in, and learn more about the history and archaeology of their neighbourhood. For more information about previous digs and this year's community dig at Burgess Park, Southwark, see the Community excavations pages.
Finds handling events
Throughout the year we host a number of finds handling events. These events are held both at the Museum of London and Museum of London Docklands, and at other external locations. During these events you can handle archaeological finds and take part in finds-related activities. For further details, see the Events, exhibitions and courses pages.
School activities
Schools can arrange to visit the London Archaeological Archive and Research Centre (LAARC); for more information please see Group and school visits. Sometimes we also organise school visits where students can handle artefacts from the LAARC and learn about archaeology first hand.
