Visiting the London Archaeological Archive and Research Centre (LAARC)

Based at Mortimer Wheeler House in Hackney, the LAARC may be used free of charge but an appointment does need to be made.

Disabled access

The LAARC occupies parts of the ground and first floors of Mortimer Wheeler House, all  areas of which are accessible via lift, ramp or stairs.

Lavatories for the disabled are provided on the  ground and second floors, and there is an Induction loop system in the seminar room.

Mortimer Wheeler House is situated on Eagle Wharf Road, close to the junction with the New North Road. Show map

  • Buses: 21, 76, 141, 271 (5-minute walk). Alight at the Eagle Wharf Road bus stop on New North Road.
  • Underground: Old Street (15-minute walk or bus) or Angel. Buses 21, 76, 141 and 271 depart from the Old Street Station area at bus stops A (Provost Street) and N (City Road) only.
  • British Rail: Essex Road (15-minute walk or bus). Bus 271 departs from bus stop ED on Canonbury Road - alight at the Eagle Wharf Road bus stop on New North Road.
  • Parking: Metered parking on Eagle Wharf Road and surrounding streets. Coach or minibus parking is possible in front of the building by prior arrangement.
