Dutch Medieval Pottery

By Tom Hoss, Dordrechts Archaeological Centrum, The Netherlands

The services provided by the LAARC offer an excellent opportunity for investigating appearances of Dutch pottery in medieval London.

An example of Medieval Dutch pottery
It is said that with the wool trade from England to Holland, Dutch red and grey wares were shipped to England as a side product. After going over about twenty excavations, I was able to draw conclusions on percentage, type and place of origin, thus adding to our knowledge of late medieval trade between England and Holland. Without the knowledge and the cooperation of the specialists of LAARC this research would be mere impossible.
