Funded research work at London Archaeological Archive and Research Centre
Alongside curating the products of archaeological fieldwork in Greater London, as its name suggests LAARC plays a prominent role in archaeological research.
Researchers from all around the world - academics, postgraduates, undergraduates, archaeologists, freelance researchers and members of the public - regularly come through our doors pursuing their own particular questions. The one thing they have in common is an interest in London's archaeological past.
Research undertaken at LAARC is as diverse as the people who visit us. Scientists collect analytical samples; archaeologists investigate a range of artefact types and environmental remains; historians incorporate archaeological evidence into their synthesis; and artists produce art works amongst many, many others.
Studies range from the prehistoric to the modern; the centre of the city to the rural environs; the domestic to the esoteric; the delicate to the utilitarian and so on, encompassing the full range of London’s past lives.
In this section of the website you can read about some of this research in greater detail. Some researchers have completed their work and passed their course, others are just starting out, but each has their own story to tell and original ideas to share. Click on the links on the left of this page to discover what they've been doing.
We hope you find their stories interesting and be inspired. Should you wish to showcase your own work on this site, please do not hesitate to contact the archive.
