Derek became a Project Manager with Museum of London Archaeology in 1991 and was appointed a Senior Project Manager in January 2000. As such, he is responsible for the management of archaeological projects - from initial consultancy through to post-excavation and publication - throughout the UK but particularly within London.
With over 30 years of experience, since 1988 Derek has had a particular responsibility for co-ordinating most fieldwork in Southwark. Since 2007, as a Senior Contract Manager, he has been responsible with two colleagues for managing all MOLA’s larger and more significant projects.
Within the last 10 years, Derek has managed a considerable number of complex and important projects, of which the following are examples: Winchester Palace (scheduled monument, consultancy, excavations and SBR); New London Bridge House (complex urban excavation, Roman and medieval buildings); Potters Fields (complex prehistoric Roman and post-medieval/industrial); St George the Martyr, Southwark (Roman and medieval burials); Lavington St (post-medieval glass kilns and delftware ceramic site); St Christopher’s House (complex urban site with geoarchaeology, prehistory, and Roman); and many more.
